LITTLE GAMBLER Watercolor Painting
The most well-known of the “desert quail”, Gambel’s are quickly identified by the topknot found atop the head of both males and females. These little characters are all over our area and I find it humorous to watch as they run in and out of the desert shrubs going about their business. They remind me of carpetbaggers traveling around the old west selling their wares. I am attracted to their subtle yet colorful feathers making them another of my favorite southwestern subjects.
