While hiking the boulder trails of The Dells in Prescott, Arizona early one Spring morning, the brilliant red blooms of hedgehog cactus growing in the cracks of the rock caught my attention. In this painting I wanted to capture the contrasts & textures of the rocks, cactus thorns, soft blooms, vibrant colors, light reflecting off the rock and deep shadows between the rocks. I am reminded that we can choose to bloom when life appears extremely difficult and rocky.
